    Instructor's Bio:

Justin Is an internationally exhibited artist and award-winning director.

Born into an artistic household, to renowned Illustrator Chris Hopkins and internationally collected sculptor Jan Hopkins, Justin was raised in Mukilteo, Washington, but now lives and works in Los Angeles. At the age of fifteen, he was already doing professional work for multiple clients, including conceptual merchandising and design for Costco, sound design and illustration for Red Bull, and music for ESPN TV spots.

At the age of eighteen, Justin was hired at Olio Inc, an architectural firm specializing in major hotels in places like Vegas and Dubai. He spent the next five years doing architectural illustration and sound design for international clients. In 2009, he struck out on his own, working as a freelance illustrator and fine art painter. He moved to New York and began showing in numerous international exhibitions, in addition to garnering attention for his commercial work.

Upon his return to Los Angeles, Justin co-founded NOH/WAVE, an art agency, and production company, with gallery space downtown. This has given him the opportunity to curate shows by internationally acclaimed artists. His unique aesthetic and attention to detail have made him a sought-after director of film and mixed media video for clients including Universal, RCA, Warner Brothers, Atlantic, Def Jam, and Domino Records.

    Webinar Description:

With an insatiable appetite for exploration, Justin Daashuur Hopkins has always tried to find the road less traveled. The practice of drawing is no different. In this lecture, Justin will be guiding you through different ways of seeing the new tools all around you. There are near-infinite possibilities and ways to find your own voice by honing your skills as a creative opportunist. Understanding the basic physical properties of both traditional materials and experimental drawing implements can help you unlock new textures and emotional weight in your work. From traditional charcoal methods to drawing with smoke from an open flame, Justin will help you see everything around you as a mark-making weapon in your creative arsenal.

Justin will also be offering live critique submissions for the first 6 people who sign up. These submissions must be drawings. The student will be expected to be able to verbally express the intention and motivation of the piece.

This webinar will be 2 hours in length and include a 1 hour (approx) lecture and demonstration followed by a 30-minute critique section and finishing with a 30-minute Q&A.

    Who Is The Webinar For?

This webinar is for any adventurous drawing enthusiast who wants to break the rhythm of their workflow and find new ways to communicate through drawing. This is for all levels of skill. Some of the techniques are challenging but can be understood with extracurricular practice.

Why Is This Webinar Being Offered?

It can be easy to become bored or complacent in your craft. Especially with so many outside sources competing for your attention. Finding new creative territory to explore will keep things interesting and your art/drawing practice more sustainable.
